OI’s Fifth Annual Benefit
United Nations Event Sure to Wow the Crowd
This year’s benefit is primed to be one for the ages. With the support and sponsorship of the United Nations SRC Club , Orphans International’s fifth anniversary celebration will take place on November 17th at the United Nations Secretariat with a fine mix of food, drink, fine art, cultural acts, great music, and even better company.

Already booked for the event are Martina Bruno, the soprano from the Haiti benefit who wowed the crowd with her incredible voice, the fantastic Salvadoran pianist Maria Letona, an Indonesian dance troupe sponsored by the Indonesian Consulate of New York that has received great reviews, an intercultural dance spectacle by the name of the Nubian Moon Daughters, and several others.

Confirmed to be in attendance to support OI’s cause are American artist Michele Zalopany and the prolific Egyptian movie star Laila Eloui. Program organizers Heba Abdel-Latif of the United Nations and OI’s Nathan Byrd are working around the clock to ensure a successful soirée, and according to Nathan, “no one will leave disappointed.” The event will make quite a night to remember.

Another special feature will be Silent Art Auction for the Moses Worthman Home for Orphans to rise in Haiti (see story & art, p. 3).

In addition to the festivities, founder Jim Luce will be releasing on disk the first run of his new book, Riding the Tiger: The Story of Orphans International, which recounts the ups and downs of the first five years and the people that made it happen. Each attendee will have an electronic copy to take home with them. Tickets are available immediately for a $100 donation by calling the New York office at (212) 755-7285, or by sending an e-mail to info@oiww.org. Because of U.N. security guests must RSVP by Oct. 31st so that the U.N. receives our final list by Nov. 1st. On Nov. 17th guests must enter the United Nations before 7:00 p.m.
